The church at Koroit was originally know as the Tower Hill Presbyterian Church and was located on Tower Hill above the crater and lake and was active from at least 1849. The decision to build the township of Koroit to enable the railway to progress west from Warrnambool to Port Fairy (known as Belfast at that time) meant relocating of services to the new township. A property was purchased and a new church building was built around 1861. Followed by the existing manse built in 1864. This building is still in use today. An all purpose hall was added in 1969.
The Port Fairy Church commenced worship services in 1843. The original church was sold and a new building was erected in 1971. There is also an all purpose hall next to the current church building.
Both congregations voted to remain in the PCA in 1977 and were linked as a parish under one Session and one Pastor from that time.
Our service itself has no frills. Yes, we sing, pray together, read the Bible and enjoy each other’s company, but our emphasis is clearly on listening to the Bible being taught and preached. We understand that the Bible is important as it tells us what we must believe about God and what He requires of us.
When meeting with us, please plan to stay afterwards for morning tea. We would love to catch up with you and encourage you in your Christian life. Our desire is to help you live for God’s glory, develop in your understanding of the Christian faith and use your gifts and abilities for His kingdom. Putting this in a few words, our desire is to help you worship, grow and serve.
Eldership
Like all Presbyterian churches, we are under the oversight of Elders. The Elders teach both publicly and privately, rule over the business of the church, care for the needs of individual members, guard against false doctrine and participate in the wider leadership of the denomination. We have had many elders at Koroit/Port Fairy since services commenced here in over 150 years ago.
Pastor/Teacher: The Koroit/Port Fairy Parish is currently vacant.
